We asked our followers on Instagram (@theequinewarehouse) for their questions about all things Summer care and Sinead was more than happy to answer!

Q: What do you recommend for horses that don't like the noise of fly spray bottles?

A: I would recommend using the Leovet Power Phaser Gel or the Power Phaser Roll on for the face.

Q: What would you advise to give a horse while competing during the summer for energy levels?

A; It would depend on how intense your workload is, but I think a good multivitamin like Mervue Superbooster combined with their Startaid Electrolytes would certainly help.

Q: Should I give my horse electrolytes daily if I'm exercising him every day?

A: It's always good to feed an electrolyte, especially during the summer. Horses can't replace salts when exercised so it's a good idea to replenish them. The Horse First Heavy Sweat is great and also helps with muscle fatigue.

Q: What do you recommend for horses with photosensitization?

A: I would put a fly rug on the body and a mask on the face. Most fly rugs and masks have UV protection. Also if you want to wash them, the Leovet shampoos have UV protection. The Tempest Original Fly Combo is a great-value rug.

Q: What products are best for getting a shiny coat for show days?

A: So my absolute must-haves are the CDM Dreamcoat - I won't ever be without for on the day. Make sure you are using a good oil in the feed like the Forans Kentucky Karron Oil - we have an offer on and you get a free Copper Max with your Karron Oil which will work really well together.  I also try and keep a rug on, especially at night. QHP has a great stable rug in 150g or 300g and they are fab just for keeping the heat in.

Q: What would help a very itchy horse in warm weather?

A: I'd use a rug like the Shires Highlander Sweet Itch Combo. It protects against biting insects, sweet itch, and sun bleaching. Ideal for all-round summer protection. I'd also recommend using shampoo like the CDM Medicated Shampoo to soothe and get rid of any dry skin.
